WHAT IS UPCYCLING?

During the 20 years I worked as a designer in the fashion industry, I frequently visited factories around the world and was exposed to one of the biggest polluting industries. Everyone knows the term Recycling, which has become a slogan for many people, but in recent years a new term has gained momentum - Upcycling. Many studies have proven that Recycling requires the disassembly of the garment and the development of new technologies in order to allow reuse of the fabric but this solution will not solve the problem, and hence the need for another solution was born -Upcycling. Upcycling vs. Recycling reuses existing fabric without the need for further treatment of the fabric.

One of the most beautiful examples I have come across is the company E.L.V Denim which uses mainly old denim products and by reassembling those items creates current items. When referring to the term upcycling in interior design many people recall various DIY images such as: new use of an old Ikea item or an old glass bottle turned into a candle. While all of these have their place, there are leading designers who demonstrate how you can make an aesthetic and design statement through Upcycling. For example, a lighting fixture designer named Heather Orr uses existing lampshades in her work and strips them back, giving them a renewed aesthetic with a new thread Offered in a variety of colors and designs, using reclaimed materials, she reinterprets vintage designs making them relevant to contemporary interiors. Upcycling may not suit everyone's taste, but the design possibilities are endless and it gives another way to deal with the pollution problems in the various design industries.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FASHION AND INTERIOR DESIGN
Published on Jan 21 on facebook

In the last year I started exploring interior design in addition to fashion design, following the change I started researching the connection between fashion and interior design and why there are many fashion designers who tend to do interior design as well. Both areas deal with the combination of colors, patterns and textures. The work process in both fields is very similar - working with inspirations, samples of materials, sketches and understanding the customer's needs, but in my opinion the connection between the two is much deeper. Social, economic and historical revolutions have always inspired the world of fashion, while the world of interior design draws inspiration from the world of fashion and hence the synergy between them.

I believe that if you want to predict the next trends in the world of interior design, you have to examine what are the hottest trends in the world of fashion. Big fashion brands such as GUCCI, ARMANI, UGG have launched lines for interior design products (even kitchens) and bring the trends they launched on the runway into your homes. Just as in the world of fashion we should embrace our unique style of clothing, the style that makes us feel good about ourselves. In the same way we should feel good in the shell of our homes. Our homes, just like our clothes, are an expression of our individual selves and our creativity.

INDIGO INTERPRETATION
Published on Feb 21 on facebook

In the last eight years I have dived into the world of DENIM which have become a central part of my design world. DENIM is a raw material with an endless and diverse world of materials, textures, washed shades.... For me, the word that characterizes the world of DENIM in the best way is INDIGO. INDIGO is the material that turns jeans to blue color. The material originally came from a plant source and is still considered as the "true indigo", at the same time over the years SYNTHETIC INDIGO has also developed, which is a more commercial and ecological interpretation. The day that the world of interior design became a part of my design world at the same time as the world of fashion, I was happy to discover the effects of INDIGO also in interior design, whether as a material or as a color.

INDIGO doesn't just have to be worn but can also be integrated into the interior and give iconic designs a fresh twist.
